i love these high-waisted wool leggings from owl.

we went to babies-r-us yesterday to look at the maclaren and city mini strollers in person. yikes! i was overwhelmed by the store and with how unnatural the materials used for baby products are… so much plastic, acrylic, etc. the place felt pretty toxic. and they’re not cheap! they do have some nice products if you search them out. but seeing these wool pants this morning was a reminder that there are plenty of options for baby things that are “made responsibly, out of materials that have beneficial properties and feel good” –well said on the owl website!

  1. we went once into one of those bigger baby-stores, and I made alex promise NEVER EVER to take me there again. it is rather depressing – the colours, the materials, the prints, the advertising… EVERYTHING! we bought a vintage babycarrier – though after some consideration, we should have opted for a convertible version. you can find very nice ones on ebay! and for the clothing: unfortuantely the nicer clothing lines are also a little out of our budget, so i started knitting 🙂 and try to buy only the basics at stores like H&M and and rather go hunting for nice vintage stuff!

  2. so sweet. make sure you buy pants/leggings with more room in the toosh for the cloth diapers-i've found its good to go up a size or so.

  3. I went to babies-r-us for the first time two weeks ago and had the same reaction. I could literally smell the plastic in the air. I walked away thinking how thankful I am to be able to find a lot of what I need locally or I can order it online.

  4. hi. it's deb from owl. thanks so much for the post. i just wanted to mention that the heartwarming leggings can be used as a diaper cover over prefolds or any cloth diapers and they will still reach well over the belly (true to size). i designed them with the cloth-diapered baby in mind.

  5. have you looked at the uppababy vista? the fabric (at least in the bassinet) is more baby-friendly. it's a huge stroller, though. i'm sure you could find one on craigslist.

catherine of lucy's place also makes merino leggings with a high waist for cloth diapers. thanks for sharing the Owl link, i've been looking for a knit cap that isn't easy to take off. i had a similar one from oeuf last year, but didn't find it to be warm enough.
